Team Glory

Friday, 02 December 2011   |   Creativity Challenges

Most CreativeThis weeks challenge is a simple social experiment.  It's harmless fun and a simple way for you to see how creative you can be in terms of recuiting others to join your cause.  A great skill to have as your project has more chance of success if you can get a great following behind you.  The game is open to everyone and anyone and you can recuit people in whatever way you like.  Read on to see the rules for scoring and then dive in and get started.

The game involves the creation of teams by way of comments below.  You may start your own team and then start trying to recruit people or you can join an existing team.

Rules:

  • You can start a team by simply posting a comment stating you are "Starting a team and it's name is X" (replace X with the name of your team.)
  • Others can join your team by posting a comment stating they are "Joining the Y team X" (Y being a descriptive term such as valiant or glorious or eccentric etc)
  • The winning team is the team with the most points as per the scoring below.

Scoring:

  • Every person who joins your team gives your team a point.
  • When you join a team, unless you have a unique Y (See above), your statement is deemed invalid and doesn't count.
  • Every thumbs up on the comment initiating the team gets the team 5 points.
  • Every thumbs down on the comment initiating the team loses the team 3 points.
  • Thumbs up and down on other comments do not contribute points.
  • Any famous person/ celebrity joining a team is worth 200 points (Their action must be verified by them posting a tweet about the challenge or similar such puclic acknowledgement of the game.)  (We will be the final judge on if someone is famous or not. eg. Claiming your mate Bob is famous as everyone in the street knows him won't cut it.)

This is a silly game

Yes, yes it is.  But that doesn't mean it's a waste of time.  There are many creative ways you could recruit people to your team.  Think BIG!!!  I dare you.  Go on.  Be creative and see just how far you can take it.  Many creative pusuits take on life depending on how well you can create a following behind it.  This game is a fun and harmless way to experiment with how you could do that.

So I leave it up to you.  This could be just a silly little game, or it could be a great experiment in how groups are formed, in how messages go viral and in the true power of the interweb.  What decision will you make?
