A Week of Six Thinking Hats

Friday, 14 January 2011   |   Creativity Challenges

Six Thinking HatsThis week you're going to try using the Six Thinking Hats method for some focused thinking.

You may have used this method before for discussions but have you tried it by yourself over a full week?  If you have not heard of or used the Six Thinking Hats method before you may want to check out the links at the bottom to find out more.

Here is the proposed schedule but feel free to modify it as you see fit.  Aim to spend about half an hour each day thinking about this and make sure you record your thoughts as you go.

Day 1 - Blue hat - think about what it is you wish to think about.

Day 2 - White hat - whatever topic you have chosen,  think about everything you know currently.

Day 3 - Red hat - think about what hunches or intuitions you have.

Day 4 - Black hat - what is currently broken or working poorly

Day 5 - Yellow hat - now think of everything that is right and working well,  what opportunities are there

Day 6 - Green hat - the previous hats were generating fuel.  Now direct that towards generating new ideas.

Day 7 - Blue hat - round it off and see what you have achieved.
